Smith & Nephew's BIOSTEP Collagen Matrix Dressing is ideal for acute and chronic wounds that have difficulty healing or are not closing at a fast enough rate. Biostep stimulates tissue regeneration to promote wound closure while maintaining an optimal moist wound environment. The dressings are suitable for managing:

  • Diabetic foot ulcers

  • Venous leg ulcers

  • Pressure ulcers

  • Donor and graft sites

  • Traumatic wounds

  • Dehisced surgical wounds

  • 1st and 2nd degree burns

  • Abrasions

Biostep Ag contains silver to minimize bacterial infection that can affect wound healing.

Biostep targets and deactivates excess MMPs (matrix metalloproteases) - the enzymes that degrade proteins - to overcome barriers to wound closure.

  • MMP Targeting: contains both type 1 and denatured (gelatin) porcine-derived collagen. This novel collagen matrix attracts and serves as sacrificial substrates for a broad array of MMPs which are found in excess within, and contribute to the chronicity of chronic wounds.

  • MMP Deactivation: contains EDTA (a proven MMP modulating agent) which permanently deactivates excess MMPs, providing prolonged, targeted MMP control without altering the activity of essential growth factors. This contributes to a longer wear time.

Biostep works well with a secondary dressing for optimal moisture management. The collagen dressing has a 6-day wear time which means fewer dressing changes and prolonged control of the wound environment.

Biostep is highly conformable and patient friendly. Its gelling action provides a cool, soothing effect for enhanced patient comfort.

  • Do not use Biostep wound dressing on individuals with a known allergy or sensitivity to porcine collagen or any other ingredient.

  • Do not use Biostep collagen dressing on 3rd degree burns.

  • Biostep dressings may be used under compression therapy under the supervision of a healthcare professional.

  • The contents of the dressing should be used on one patient only.

  • The product is for external use only.

  • Contact with the skin around the wound's edges and intact skin should be minimized.
